Quality scope,
Simmons used to be good, then some things changed and not all new design holds to tradition of this company. This is one of the scopes they still make like they should, but who knows for how long. Corporation get bought and sold, beancounters get involved, and products change. The .44 Mag is a traditional scope, and this one has really good optics, no nonsense adjustments and very strong construction. I like Truplex design which is basically fancy name for traditional duplex reticule, bright optics and solid adjustments. I do strongly recommend DNZ mount for this one in Mid height on most to get good bolt clearance of about 3/16, and if long distance target you get zero at 200 yards for .223 Remington and perfectly manageable adjustment on .300 Winchester Magnum with some variations depending on bullet. True, you can cough out more on fancy big name scope, but again the results are not what you pay for but most certainly what is in your freezer. This scope is supposed to be 44mm – well, the outside is bit over 49mm. I mention it because rings heights versus clearance do matter. This is why I strongly suggest gun designated DNZ, or you end up with heavy and ugly contraption of combined Weaver and Whatever. Also the beauty of the scope is eye relief – here very safe over 3.5 inch. If you ever been “kissed” in the eye brow by a scope with short eye relief when shooting Magnum cartridge you know what that means. Bottom line – this one is good quality, comfortable and well designed rifle scope.
