Quality through and through,
Summary of Review: if you want the very best in red-dot sights, this is the one to get. Everything about this red-dot sight is superb.
I have lately been on a quest for the perfect red-dot sight for my Ruger Mark III .22 pistol. I wanted a quality red-dot sight that mounts on a picatinny/Weaver rail. I tried two other red-dots before selecting this one. This one made the grade for good reason.
First some background. A red dot sight, just as the name implies, projects a single red dot (of variable intensity) that you simply place on the target with the expectation that the bullet will hit the same spot. It is thus similar to a laser, excepting that it is essentially passive. While a laser mounted on a firearm actually places an actual dot on a target, the red-dot sight only appears to do so to the shooter through optics. The red-dot sight thus has the advantage that the target never sees the dot. Further, the optically-generated dot on a red-dot sight is much easier to see in daylight, and is useful for targets at a vastly greater range than does a laser in daylight. Lasers have their own advantages. Each has their uses, but the red-dot sight meets my criteria.
Alas, like most things, when it comes to red-dot sights my research and testing indicates that you get what you pay for. I tried two less expensive sights, and both had issues that made them unacceptable to my not-so-high standards. This Aimpoint H-1, while somewhat expensive, is worth the money for several reasons:
1. The optics are quite literally perfect. The red-dot is just that: a dot. No flare. (Look for flare in knock-off products.)
2. The zeroing system is particularly elegant. No easy-to-strip Allen screws here. The adjustment screws (windage and elevation) are covered with gasketed plastic caps. Each cap is designed to function as a tool for adjusting the sight. Additionally, Aimpoint provides a handy multi-purpose tool for mounting the sight to the Weaver/Picatinny rail. This tool also can be used to adjust the sight settings instead of using the caps. This may seem unimportant, but I have evaluated two other red-dot sights which had adjustment hardware that I simply found unacceptable. This comes close to being “soldier-proof.” This sight is a joy to zero in at the range. Out of the box, and off to the range, the sight was very close to zero. I moved it up and right perhaps one inch. Using the caps as intended, as tools to adjust windage and elevation, is a snap. This system is vastly better than Allen screws or the like.
3. Fit, finish, construction are all superlatively good. You get what you pay for.
4. This sight is small and light. It is small and light enough to be practical for any but very small pistols. A lightweight pistol or rifle remains lightweight with this splendid accessory attached. We have all seen pistols with sights almost as big as the pistol. Not this sight. And there is no sacrifice in performance caused by the small size.
5. This one comes on and off easily. If you want to shoot with your iron sights on an outing, no problem. No re-zeroing when you reattach it either.
The proof of the pudding is the shooting. This one was close to zero right out of the box. My shot groups were very tight using this sight. I have been shooting for four decades, but only recently have I utilized a red-dot sight. Warning: it is addictive. Without a bulky scope, a red-dot sight enables a shooter to achieve accuracy beyond what is possible for most of us using even excellent iron or fiber-optic sights. My groups at 50 feet with this red-dot sight were as good as my groups at 25 feet with an iron sight. (Disclosure: I am no great shooter.) And this one is so small and light that it mounts very snappily on a pistol. For a rifle, it is a natural and I intend to equip my Ruger 10/22 rifle with one of these.
There is nothing about this sight that I can criticize. Rarely have I seen a better piece of engineering and manufacture. Highly recommended. RJB.

|Just like the T1 but no NVG setting,
The Aimpoint T1 (and the H1) are the pinnacle of cutting edge in weapons sighting systems. Every bit as rugged and reliable as the full size models but with less bulk and less weight to haul around. The T1 is the Night Vision Capable version, while the H1 is the same model without the Night Vision settings).
The T1 has an estimated battery life of 5 years and weights almost nothing. The small size of the tube I thought would be noticeable but it is not at all. After the minimum amount of time you will only notice the red dot and not the sight housing surrounding it. The sight itself is very short and needs a space or separate mount to be used with an AR style rifle (there are dozens of quality made aftermarket mounts). The T1 can be used as the primary weapons sighting system or as a backup ‘piggy backed’ on a magnified optic.
You will pay for the T1 but what you get is the highest of quality from a company that stand behind its products 100%. There is a reason why you have seen Aimpoint optics on the sights of military, law enforcement and serious shooters the world over. The Aimpoint is by far the toughest and most reliable red dot optic system I have ever seen or used.

|Superlative Quality,
The Micro H1 is very small, very light, and very well made. I too have mounted this on a Ruger Mark 3 hunter and it is a joy to shoot! No more aligning front and rear sights, you just put the dot where you want the bullet to go and it goes there. It does reveal however just how unsteady shooting offhand can be. That red dot bounces around quite a bit on the target at long range unless you really have a rock steady hold. Just imagine a laser dot that only you can see and that is exactly what you get.
The optics are sharp and clear and the sight appears very durable. The 50,000 hour battery life is a plus and that is quoted at a setting of 8 out of 12 if I’m not mistaken. I’ve found that 6 or 7 is plenty bright at the indoor range so the battery would last even longer. I turn the thing off anyway when I’m not using it.
You won’t notice much of a weight increase and you also won’t notice a change in the handling feel of the weapon that the Aimpoint is mounted on. I’ve seen handguns with conventional scopes mounted and they are often as large as the weapon itself. Not so in this case. I also would suspect that a conventional magnifying scope would amplify your movements too and it would be hard to hold steady.
The adjustments are very precise and the clicks are well defined and positive. I’m very pleased with them.
